Company

Company

At Cedar Street Dance Studio we believe that dance is the hidden language of the soul. Judith Jamison once said “If you look at a dancer in silence, his or her body will be the music. If you turn the music on, that body will become an extension of what you’re hearing.” While all our students perform in our end of the season recital, we do have many students who are interested in performing more throughout the year. We invite these dancers to join our Company and we have a variety of options including dancing in our local productions and ballets or traveling to competitions. Dancers in grades 3-teen may join Company by audition or invitation only. We offer a mini company for dancers in grades K-2.

While we do offer the option to be a part of our award-winning competition team, competition is not our primary focus. At Cedar Street we believe in creating a well-rounded dancer, a dancer who is technically proficient and understands how their role fits into a production. In doing so our dancers are able to focus more on the quality of their art. We do not offer competition or performance only options. Company dancers are required to take weekly dance class in addition to their repertory rehearsals.  Our mission is to teach dancers, not just dances. While we do offer a variety of dance classes for all ages including ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary dance; the heart and soul of our program is ballet where the importance of technique and etiquette are emphasized.

We work to provide unique opportunities for our students to encourage growth and exposure. These opportunities include, but are not limited to, our annual production of The Nutcracker, community performances, recitals, competitions and conventions. We do believe in the spirit of competition and we choose the conventions and competitions we attend carefully. We believe competition should be an outlet for dancers to perform and receive constructive feedback from knowledgeable judges. Conventions and competitions are wonderful places to meet students from other studios, be inspired by talented dancers and teachers, and grow as artists.
